Who is this course for?
This painting course is designed for adults who are eager to enhance their artistic abilities within a nurturing and welcoming setting.
Whether you have previously completed an introductory Art & Design course with us or have gained art experience through personal or professional endeavors such as leisure sessions, we encourage and invite all individuals interested in expanding their creativity to apply for this course.

When and where is it held?
Study one day per week, Thursdays, in our art studio environment from 10 - 4pm. Start date for 2024 is Thursday 5th September and there are 32 sessions in total.
There are breaks in line with the Norfolk County Council school term calendar.
We are based in Sprowston, Norwich, Norfolk NR7 8SQ.

What art skills will I learn?
The course is split into 5 modules; Imaginative Landscapes, Dynamic Still Life Studies, Portraiture, Fabulous Florals and Water & Light. You will learn how to use oils, acrylics, watercolour and pastels.
You will understand how to use colour to create mood, convey messages, and make your paintings resonate with viewers. Learn how to infuse your work with emotional impact, making your art truly captivating. Gain the confidence to exhibit your work in galleries & art shows. Our experienced tutor will guide you through the process, from creating a cohesive body of work to preparing for exhibitions.

How will I be taught?
The first 4 weeks of each module will be lessons related to the theme, involving step-by-step demonstrations and paint alongs. Then you will be set a small challenge based on all of the skills and techniques that you have learned up to that point. You will be given the fifth and sixth week to complete this challenge, in class with guidance.
You will be given feedback for your mini challenge from the tutor which will include suggestions and tips to develop your work moving forward.
If you are looking to hone your painting skills to be able to produce successful artwork or you are considering further building your portfolio of work then this course is for you.
There are no essays, written evaluations or formal exams. You will be given feedback, encouragement and points to take forward relating to each module.
Although this is not an accredited course and does not attract UCAS points, successful completion of all modules will result in an The Art Academy Level 2 Diploma and you will be issued with a certificate.

No, we have designed this course to focus on practical skills and techniques. For each module challenge we will ask you to talk about the piece of work you have created; further guidance will be given. It will be a simple reflection exercise that will help your tutor feedback on what it is you have created and what you were trying to achieve.

Materials are not included in the cost of this course. You will need to source your own materials necessary for each lesson/module. There will be a Level 2 Diploma kit available to purchase (contents to be confirmed). We have designed the lessons to use materials and equipment that are readily available or that you are more than likely to already have. We will send learners a suggested kit list, some of which can be purchased from our materials store.

Yes, full completion of each module is required to achieve the The Art Academy Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design.

You can create and store your artwork in a sketchbook or keep your individual pieces separate.

No, your artwork will be reviewed by your tutor at the end of each module and you will be given full feedback about your development and progression.

This course is aimed at those who have already undertaken some previous study in Art & Design OR those who have practised creatively in their life and are looking to develop their painting & drawing skills. Please contact us to discuss - all applications are welcome.

There are no specific qualification entry requirements for this course. We will assess your application on it’s own merits and allocate places accordingly.

This course in not accredited by an awarding body and therefore does not attract UCAS points. It has been designed using our knowledge and experience of working with accredited qualifications and is aimed at those who wish to focus on developing their artistic skills and techniques in order to be able to produce higher quality artwork. You will build a strong portfolio of evidence to display your creative ability which can then be shown to Universities for consideration as a mature student on a degree level qualification.
Please note that we do not guarantee access to a degree level qualification as this depends on individual university requirements. We would recommend you contact your university of choice to enquire about this.
